Josh Workman, guitar – Jumpin’ At The Border (with Larry
Vuckovich, piano & arranger; Noel Jewkes, sax & flute; The Hot
Club of San Francisco & others) – Tetrachord Music 683, 72:00 ****:

Guitarist Workman has been praised by none other than Jim Hall and
Guitar Player Magazine and strikes me as having a sort of updated
Charlie Byrd sound. His compatriots here are all San Francisco-area
musicians, and the presence of the Hot of Club of SF gaurantees that
there’ll be a number of gypsy-jazz tracks amongst the commodious CD of
16 selections. Vuckovich, a long-time SF keyboardist, has come up with
some fun arrangements and the sonics are excellent.  An altogether
enjoyable collection of music for acoustic guitar aficionados.

Tracks: Jumpin’ at the Border, Sippin’ at Bell’s, Andrew de Sapato
Novo, Monkiah, Autumn Nocturne, The Sweetest Sounds, No Me Platiques
Mas, Ow!, I Can’t Face the MusicI Want a Little Boy, Nono, Take Me In
Your Arms, Kali Sara, You’re Driving Me Crazy, My Pearl, Carinhoso,
You’re Blasé.  [www.joshworkman.com]
