Headphone:X Coming to Mobile Devices – According to Qualcomm and DTS, smartphones and tablets will be able to deliver up to 7.1 channels of surround sound via stereo headphones starting later this year. The DTS technology will be part of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile processors and reproduces virtual surround of up to 7.1 channels of soundtracks mixed in 7.1 channels. Saffron Digital’s video-streaming service has also added the DTS-HD surround codec, optimized for streaming and which adapts to changing network bandwidth and device capability without degradation.

Fox Sues Dish Over Hopper Feature – Fox Broadcasting has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction against Dish’s new “on the go” feature, which allows Hopper owners to watch live or recorded TV shows on mobile devices. The new Hopper box incorporates the firm’s Sling technology, enabling subscribers to connect the Hopper to the Internet and view saved content via the Dish Anywhere mobile app or online at dishanywhere.com.  Fox and other networks have also sued Dish to stop using its PrimeTime Anytime an AutoHop commercial-skipping features. Fox lost the initial suit but is appealing the case.

Unlike other similar products, they include remote control, allowing the end user to control a house full of speakers from any room. In a few hours, any audio receiver can become a full multi-room system.

Canon Introduces ‘Mixed Reality’ Headset – Taking 3D to a new dimension, Canon has revealed what they call mixed-reality (MR) with a special head gear display mixing 3D images into real-world surroundings. The MREAL system uses a head-mounted display and software to create the illusion that computer-generated visuals exist within the real surroundings. It merges vitual objects with the real world at full scale and in three dimensions. Video cameras as located in front of each eye, capturing real-world video that is then sent to a computer, which combines them with the computer-generated graphics and displays it on small monitors inside the head-mounted display.

Audio Startup BassNation Builds Dealer Base – BassNation Audio has begun hiring sales reps for its first product, the BlackBox. This pro-style AC-powered single-cabinet stereo speaker connects to audio sources via either RCA or headphone jacks. SRP is $299.
