Maz Jobrani: I Come in Peace (2013)
Director/Producer/Everything: Maz Jobrani Studio: Inception Media Group MG126DVD [11/12/13] Video: 16:9 color Audio: English PCM stereo Extras: Jobrani short: “My Two Worlds” Length: 71 minutes Rating: ****Amazingly shot in Stockholm, Sweden, and everybody in the audience speaks and understands English, this is the Iranian comic’s third stand-up special and great fun. He does a fine job of working the audience and doesn’t just run thru a series of jokes or bits. This is quite an international crowd and Jobrani makes use of that. I liked the part when he asked if there were any Jews or Palestinians there and shouts came from the same place in the balcony. He talked to them for awhile, then ended by saying “Now none of you Palestinians throw any rocks at the Jews and you Jews don’t try to take any of the Palestinians’ seats.”
Jobrani has fresh and entertaining idea on becoming a parent, the preponderance of Spanish-speaking nannies in the LA area, on being bald and liking it, and a hilarious bit on the different kisses on the cheeks – Middle Eastern style – that you must remember when you’re in that area. He discusses his family, including his East Indian wife, politics, and emphasizes at both the beginning and end of his bit that Middle Easterners all love to dance. I thought the best part of whole DVD was his short “Extra,” which is a very clever bit dealing with racism that also sets straight that Iranians are not arabs.
