Library of Congress Acquires Max Roach’s Legacy Collection – The life and music of the late jazz great Max Roach, one of the founders of bebop, will forever by memorialized for future generations in the Library of Congress Jefferson Building. The drummer’s personal collection consists of audio and video recordings, papers, music, and photos. Over the years he communicated with and collaborated with some of the greatest names in jazz. Ongoing exchanges with Parker, Gillespie, Monk, Mingus, Nina Simone, Alvin Ailey, Sam Shepard and Maya Angelou are in the collection. There are 80,000 papers and manuscripts, 7500 photos, 1000 music manuscripts and hundreds of audio and video recordings.
