The Film Detective to Release 10-20 Restored Classic Films Monthly – The Film Detective, launched this month, restores and distributes digitally-remastered classic film programming for TV, DVD, Blu-ray, VOD and other digital platforms. The plan to release 10-20 titles per month as well as synidicate worldwide thru broadcast, VOD and leading ovie portals. There will later be a classic movie subscription service on a VOD platform, featuring a verteran movie host. The Film Detective has more then 3000 titles and many will be resoted in HD. Original artwork is available for most, and DVDs and Blu-rays will be region free.

Sony Hi-Res Promotion Campaign Features “Cheek to Cheek” Album – A new campaign launched this week partners Sony with Columbia, Streamline and Interscope Records to let music enthusiasts know about hi-res albums delivering better sound quality than MP3s. The campaign focuses on the HAP-Z1ES HD music player for the home and the NWZ-A17 Walkman, Sony’s first hi-res portable. A concert performance by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will be presented on PBS next month and later streamed in UHD via Amazon’s Instant Video streaming.

DirecTV Shareholders Support Merger With AT&T – More than 99% of DirecTV’s shareholders favored approving the merger, which now awaits review and action by the U.S. Department of Justice, the FCC and certain international regulatory bodies. Hope is to have the transaction completed in the first half of 2015. This merger would parallel another pending merger of communication giants, between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, also awaiting Federal approvals.

Three Onkyo AVRs Get Dolby Atmos Updates – All 2014 Onkyo AV receivers and preamp/processors will now feature dual 320bit processing engines to decode, scale and calibrate Dolby Atmos. The flaghip network AV controllers and high-end AVRs, original scheduled to ship in August, will now ship mid-October with Dolby Atmos built-in. They also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, support for hi-res audio playback, and HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 copy protection.

Petra Adds NuVo Distributed Audio – The national home theater, AV accessory and custom-install products distributor has added NuVo Technologies’ whole-home audio systems, which allow users to stream audio anywhere in the home, including multiple rooms simultaneously.  The NuVo line includes a wireless gateway and four models of zone players, either wired or wireless. Internet radio, online music servies, personal libraries and other sources can all be controlled thru proprietary interface apps on mobile devices.
