Home Media Networking Grows – A firm called iSuppli did a consumer demand survey concerning the multiple physical interfaces for consumer electronics devices. They found that awareness and demand for home networking is growing among consumers. 61% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they wanted to be able to connect the Internet to their TVs and the figures were even higher with male respondents: 71%. CE manufacturers are incorporating IP-based connectivity to enable a path to both user-created content and to new Internet-based media portals. 240 million networked devices were shipped in 2006 and by 2011 the figures is expected to grow to nearly 760 million. By then, Wi-Fi will be the most common physical interface, followed by Cat-5, powerline and coax – in relative percentage of shipments. A sharp rise in the use of both powerline and coax is expected.

Low-distortion Op Amps from National Semiconductor
– Two families of high-fidelity audio operational amps have been introduced by National Semiconductor Corporation. The 44V and 34V series practically eliminate distortion with a THD+noise figure of only .00003 percent. The highly linear behavior will allow audio manufacturers to produce systems with cleaner and more transparent sound quality. High speed and high output drive are qualities of the new op amps. They are well-suited for AV receivers, preamps and mixers, as well as speakers, monitors, subwoofers, and home automation components.

Drummer Max Roach Dies
– Blue Note Records announces the passing of legendary jazz drummer, bebop found, bandleader and civil rights activist Max Roach, who was 83 years old. He had redefined the role of drums in jazz during the bebop revolution of the late 40s and early 50s, participating in many of the movement’s seminal recordings. He is heard on some of  classic albums, including The Amazing Bud Powell Vol. 1, Thelonious Monk’s Genius of Modern Music Vol. 2, Miles Davis’ Birth of the Cool, and Ellington’s Money Jungle.

CEDIA Show in Denver in 3 Weeks – The international trade association of companies that design and install electronics systems for the home holds its 2007 Expo at the Colorado Convention Center from September 5 thru 9, with a press day on the 4th. More than 28,000 residential electronic systems professionals will the CEDIA EXPO. Dozens of new 1080p DLP and LCD displays and projectors will be shown, plus the first new video processor featuring v1.3 HDMI compatibility. One company will show software that uses robotic devices to load CD-Rs and DVD-Rs into burners and then automatically organizes the source material by genre and more. Several manufacturers will launch technology sending hi-def video signals over 1000 feet using standard CAT-5 wire.
