New TV-Watching App – A new smartphone app called is now available, which shows exactly what you’ve watched on TV and calculates how much of your life you spent doing just that.  If you binge-watched Breaking Bad, that comes to a total of two days and 14 hours… However, it doesn’t calculate the relationship between TV-watching and obesity.

Energy Star Awards for LG & Samsung – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will recognize Samsung and LG Electronics as 2014 Energy Star Partners of the Year for sustained excellence and climate communications. American consumers purchased more than 1.6 million LG products with the Energy Star in 2013, and LG increased the number of Most Efficient models by 55% from 2012 to 2013. One of their efforts is a multiyear initiative involving kids in helping their families save energy and money at home, while teaching how that is good for the environment. Samsung’s accomplishments include Product Innovation, Consumer Promotion and Corporate Citizenship. Samsung’s North American headquarters in Ridgefield Park, NJ, earned an Energy Star certification for operating in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency. Three Samsung products have received the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technologies Awards from the CEA.

Warner Classics’ New Campaign Targeting Older Audiences – I nearly put this April Fools news release here in the news on 4/1. It described a new campaign to attract older consumers, to build strong ties with the 85+ demographic. It listed a new reissue series of CDs featuring such compilations as “Classical Music to Drive Slowly and Erratically To,” and “100 Best Classics for Sitting in a Rocking Chair and Incoherently Mumbling about ‘Kids These Days.” They will also pack a square of delicious peanut brittle in each new catalog box set, and will conduct a global contest for a lucky winner to receive a brand new hip replacement free of charge.

Amazon Launches Fire TV Streamer – Amazon has formally unveiled their  Fire TV, which is a tiny set-top smart TV adapter targeted to complete against both other set-top devices like Roku 3 and Apple TV, but some of the most advanced smart HDTVs as well. It supports Wi-Fi to stream up to 1080p FullHD video with surround sound to the TV via HDMI, and is designed for simplicity of use and faster content selection. Fire TV has a quad-core processor and Adreno 320 graphics engine processing 57 billion floating point instructions per second for three times the processing power of Apple TV, Roku 3 and Chromecast. It will access Amazon’s movie and video-streaming services as well as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Showtime, YouTube, Pandora, TuneIn and many more. Services will be added and updated over time. There will also be a collection of affordable video games, useable with an optional controller. The Fire TV is $99.
