Best Buy to Launch $3499 Curved-screen 55-inch LG OLED HDTV – Just a bit over a year since the launch of the first curved-screen 55-inch OLED TV at some Best Buy locations for $14,499, the second generation display is being made available at over 24 Best Buy locations starting August 24 for only $3499. An LG spokesman said this model looks even better than last year’s at a price much more affordable and a market size that’s much larger.  LG is ahead of most other manufacturers whose OLED efforts have stalled. The displays use a proprietary “WRGB” technology, said to deliver very high picture quality with an infinite contrast ratio to achieve deep black levels and a rich and varied color gamut. The panel if virtually paper-thin and the curved screen is accented with a frameless, bezel-less “Cinema Screen” design that offers an edge-to-edge picture. Very wide viewing angles and fast response time is part of the technology. LG’s new LG Smart TV + webOS-connected TV platform provides an interface designed for quick transitions between broadcast TV, streaming services and external devices. A streamlined matching stand is provided for those not mounting the display on the wall, and this is among the OLED TVs to be Energy Star certified.

Russound at CEDIA – The firm’s largest product launch in years will included three new multizone controller/amps, eight new custom-install speakers, new amps and two accessories. Their eight-source, eight-zeon MCA-88X multiroom-audio controller/amp distributes music from connected local sources, embedded streaming services, and networked sources. It uses up to eight in-wall keyboards and touchscreens, and features full system control from iOs and Android apps. New functions include alarm and sleep timers, a home theater trigger, and the ability to designate one source as a third-party page or phone system. It has 12 times 40-watt amplification and eight fixed or variable line outputs. In speakers, Russound will show eight Acclaim series models with choice of round or square grilles, shallower mounting depths, and 6 or 8-inch woofers. Some feature an angled woofer in a low-diffraction baffle to direct audio to specific listening areas. All tweeters can be adjusted up to 15 degrees in different directions without diffraction occurring.
