LG to Show UHD OLED TVs at CES – LG electronics will be showing, among other new products, an advanced first-of-its-kind 77-inch UHD curved, screen HD OLED display. They will also have 55- and 65-inch OLED models, plus a flat-OLED set in a picture frame design making the set resemble a framed work of fine art.  The last model has a Canvas Speaker, concealing a 2.2-channel 100-watt forward-facing sound system. The sill combine LG’s proprietary WRGB OLED technology with UHD screen resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels). Other features include Ultra Cinema 3D film-type patterned retarder technology for improved resolution and 77-inch display will be automatically controlled by the LG Color Refiner to ensure consistency and balance, plus an infinite contrast ratio. The 77-inch also includes the Tru-Ultra HD Engine Pro for upscaling of SD, HD or Full HD content to near-UHD picture quality. The Motion Estimation Motion Compensation makes onscreen action appear smoother, clearer and more realistic. All the sets have a built-in decoder that accepts signals from external devices connected via the TV’s HDMI, USB or LAN ports. The 55-inch Gallery series display is made using more recyclable materials and fewer parts than its predecessor, and has received a CES 2014 Innovations Award for its eco-friendly design.

Worldwide Computer Monitor Shipments Rise in Q3 – In spirt of the depressed market, worldwide computer monitor shipments increased in the third quarter, according to IDC. Shipments were up 4.5%, with 35 million shipped worldwide. Dell was the monitor shipping champion for the quarter, followed by Samsung, HO, LG and AOC.

Wolf Cinema Has Three New Video Projectors –  At next week’s International CES in Las Vegas, Wolf Cinema will iintroduce three new DLP-based front projectors, plus upgrades of two current models. Their projectors are designed for higher ambient light room conditions. The all-new SDC-25 LED-based HT projection system uses three long-life RGB emitters instead of the more traditional lamp-based illumination technologies.

The projector is mated with the firm’s latest ProScaler MK V, which is designed in conjunction with industry guru Jim Peterson and incorporates Darbee Video Presence technologies for enhanced depth, sharpness and imaging reality.  The popular SDC-12 and SDC-15 models had new UHD features added, and the two engines now accept and display images from native UHD sources, add improved black level performance, expanded system-calibration memories and advanced iris packages.

Celebrity Guests to Promote Latest Consumer Technologies at International CES –  The 2014 International CES, Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas, will feature Hollywood stars, pop musicians, sports legends and tV personalities promoting innovative products and technologies revolutionizing the ways consumers work, play, connect and access information. Among them will be Janelle Monae,, Ilivia Munn, the two sons of music icon Bob Marley, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, LeVar Burton, engineer Doug Sax and astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria. The first scavenger hunt to explore the event will be sponsored by iBeacon, who make a short-range, Bluetooth, low-energy transmitter that can notify mobile devices when they come with 100 feet of the beacon. It can be used for indoor navigation automatic ticketing, guided museum tours and location-relevant promotions. Users will collect badges for each iBeacon they encounter at CES and winners will be rewarded with a special prize.
