Channel Classics’ New DSD Download Site – Channel Classics has added a new DSD-dedicated site featuring DSD recorded files, which they feel are superior to 96/24 PCM and 192/24 PCM. They have over 800 files coming online in the next couple of months, including from Harmonia mundi, Challenge, Fone, LSO Live, and many small labels, in addition to their own. Labels can put various sample rate recordings up for free for those interested in comparing 128K, 256K, and even DSD, for example. Electronic Sales of Online Movies and TV Grows 68% – According to a new studio from the NPD Group, the electronic sell-thru (EST) of movie and TV shows has grown to more than $1 billion since 2012, and represents almost 14% of the the money spent on physical and digital home video purchases for 2013. Much of the growth was due to new digital buyers drawn into the market. Comcast was the second major cable service after Verizon to offer EST and more are expected the join the market. A spokesperson said it will become an important complement to video-on-demand, and traditional pay-TV services, since it drives incremental revenue and contributes to subscriber retention.
