Decrease in Discounts as Consumer Spending on Electronics Increases – Retailers hope to regain lost profits due to heavy discounting during the past year.  Accord to new data consumer spending has increased and there will be price rises for the new range of smart TVs that have many new features built in. They will be priced higher than previous models. The same applies to the newer generation of smartphones, tablets and computers.
Ten Named to Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame – Among the inductees announced by the Consumer Electronics Association were the founders of Samsung and LG Electronics:
Willard Boyle and George Smith – inventors of the charge-coupled device (CCD) at Bell Labs
Robert Briskman – inventor of satellite radio
Richard Citta – creator of the VSB digital TV transmission standard
Bjorn Dybdahl – founder of consumer electronics retailer Bjorn’s
Douglas Engelbart – inventor of the computer mouse and HTML
Charlie Ergen – founder of satellite companies Echostar and Dish Network
Larry Finley – founder of the International Tape Association (now the International Recording Media Association)
Fansy and Henry Harold Gregg – founders of consumer electronics retailer hhgregg
In Hwoi Koo – founder of LG Corp.
Byung-Chull Lee – founder of Samsung Electronics
JVC Kenwood Posts First Annual Profit – The company, formed in 2008, reported a net profit of 6.03 billion yen for first quarter 2012, the first since the firm was founded. The company blamed the Japan earthquake last March and the floods in central Thailand for much of its woes, with a higher yen, European fiscal problems and a slow recovery of the U.S. economy.
