HIGHRESAUDIO Expands Offerings with Universal Music – One of the several current hi-res music download sites, HIGHRESAUDIO in Germany, has signed with Universal to offer classical works of Bach, Bruch, Debussy, Haydn, Mahler, Liszt, Vivaldi and others at the sampling rate of 96kHz/24-bit stereo, from Decca Classics and Deutsche Gramophone labels. Jazz, pop, and rock genres will follow in the coming months. For the first time the downloads are offered in all three popular download formats: FLAC, AIFF and WAV.  Hi-res music will reflect greater transparency, subtlety and dynamics than music from standard CD, compressed MP3 or AAC format music files.
Canon Moves Into Pro Motion Picture Field – Canon is moving into d-SLR equipment for the motion picture production industry due to its technical prowess in the category. Its new Cinema EOS System will be part of its line of professional lenses, digital cinema cameras and d-SLR camera products, “building on the company’s 74-year history of innovation and expertise in the field of optical and imaging technology.” Canon introduced seven new 4K EF cinema lenses, four zoom lenses and three single focal-length models, to complement the company’s current lineup of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS SLR cameras. A new digital SLR camera now under development features a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor supporting the recording of 4K video at a frame rate of 24P. Their EOS C300 PL camera features a Super 35mm-equivalent 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor ideally suited for digital cinematography.
Apple’s AirPlay Losing Out to Bluetooth – Logitech and Bose have both introduced new products to wirelessly stream music from iOS devices using Bluetooth instead of Apple’s AirPlay. AirPlay was supposed to provide better compatibility, range and audio quality, but Bluetooth, which is less expensive, works almost identically to AirPlay on iOS devices. It has the same compatibility between apps; the new LG sound bar with Bluetooth built in even uses the AirPlay icon.
