New Plex Media Player –  Plex has a series of media tools letting users stream local media to your smartphone, table, leptop or TV with a series of apps.  But they also have rebuilt their home heater app as an open source mpv media playback engine which can handle most popular video codecs and support hardware-accelerated video playback on a wide range of devices. It uses the same UI as one available for smart TV products and is also available in UHD resolutions. Some features are still in development. The new unit will be available to all Plex Pass subsribers at first, and later will be available for free users as well. Being open source, there’s nothing to stop someone else from continuing development of the software.
