Supposedly a third season has been cancelled, although there were two quick shots in the season finale that seemed to hint at a coming third season of this well-done series. I thought the second season was even better than the first, though the first was a quite intriguing mystery. Halle Berry, as Molly Wood the astronaut, had been alone in space for many months. Upon returning to earth she was pregnant with an alien spore. Her husband had created a humanichs small son for them who seemed just like a real human but was actually a very advanced robot.

The novel concept of the show had her crossing paths with JD Richter, a determined freelance cop who just signed on to the case. He frees her from a “rest facility” where she has been confined as part of a conspiracy to keep her quiet about the presence of aliens. She is striken by a strange illness which might have something to do with her encounter in space. Her hybrid semi-alien son Adhu, is at first seen as the enemy because most of the women he impregnated died, but then the aliens learn how to prevent that and Molly and eventually even JD come to their side. Molly nearly dies but then is reborn as a half-alien.

The government creates many powerful humanich soldiers to fight the aliens, and in the process will eventually release a virus which will kill all humans and aliens alike all over the world. They are led by a renegade humanich named Lucy, who one of the lab experts failed to put limiters into her. One general, who at first goes along with the government actions against the aliens, is convinced by Molly to change sides and he is killed as her husband John had been. Sides must be chosen for the electrifying ending of the series. It turns out the real villian is a giant computer.

The extras and deleted scenes are of interest thruout the series. There are usually three episodes to a Blu-ray disc. It’s interesting that both some of the heros as well as villians in the series are black. One of the two scientists who started the humanichs process, and who is first painted as a terrible villian, turns out to be a helpful person who eventually gives himself up to the government in order to spare his friends.
