Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a master thief who specializes in the art of extraction: the stealing of valuable information from deep within his target’s subconscious dream state.  Cobb’s highly sought-after expertise has turned him into an international fugitive and prevents him from being with his two young children.  Cobb is approached by an individual named Saito (Ken Watanabe) who has a unique proposal for him.  Should he complete one special job for Saito, Saito will use his connections to enable Cobb to return home to his children.  The job, however, is not an extraction, but rather something thought near impossible: inception.  Inception is the planting of an idea in a target’s mind.  Cobb accepts Saito’s proposal and assembles a top-notch team for the job.  However, the team’s task becomes exceedingly difficult for reasons that only Cobb could have seen coming.
“Inception” is a brilliant movie.  It has both non-stop action and a plot that requires you to use your brain throughout.  The special effects are incredible and the Hans Zimmer music soundtrack is engrossing.  DiCaprio is at the top of his game and the supporting cast shines too.  A movie that begs to be watched more than once to fully appreciate it, “Inception” gets a must-own recommendation from me.

The overall high definition video quality of this Blu-ray is excellent.  Images are pristine with razor-sharp detail.  Black levels are consistently inky dark throughout the movie.  Colors are robust and vibrant with nicely-saturated hues.  Picture defect mastering is near perfect with no major flaws or compression artifacts.  The overall audio quality is also excellent with the English DTS 5.1 track serving as the basis for this review.  The soundtrack aggressively incorporates all of the discrete channels into its dynamic mix.  Dialogue is natural-sounding and always intelligible (even with all of the on-screen action).  The surround channels are heavily utilized for sound effects and the Hans Zimmer music score, plus include several split rear effects.  The low frequency effects channel is tight, powerful and provides some serious thunder during certain scenes.

“Inception” is compatible with the “D-BOX” Motion Code™ System, meaning that if you have the necessary D-BOX equipment, your movie viewing experience will be enhanced by adding both motion and vibration to your chosen seating.  This is one of the best D-BOX-enabled movies I have experienced to date.  Motion effects and vibration are present throughout the film with several long sustained sequences to boot.  Significant up-and-down and side-to-side motion, along with rumbling vibration, are used to simulate flying, weightlessness, a runaway train, vehicle crashes, hand-to-hand combat, gunfire, and multiple explosions.  “Inception” is a reference-caliber D-BOX title.
