June Havens (Cameron Diaz) is a classic car restorer who is on her way back to Boston when she literally bumps into Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) twice at the airport.  Unbeknownst to June, Roy is a secret agent who is currently on the run from the FBI.  Roy is under surveillance and June’s brief encounter with him arouses suspicion that she is somehow involved with Roy.  Roy is currently hiding Simon Feck, a brilliant scientist who invented an unlimited power source the size of a small battery.  Several competing groups want this power source very badly and are willing to kill for it.  As June’s life is now in grave danger as a result of their chance encounter at the airport, Roy has made it his mission to protect her.  Roy and June’s race to stay alive stretches across the globe, all the while with Roy trying to convince June that he’s the good guy, protecting Simon and the energy source that a rogue agent named Fitzgerald wants to sell on the black market.

Simply put, “Knight and Day” is a fun movie.  It is smart, funny and packed with a great deal of action.  The chase sequences are among some of the best that I have witnessed in a long while.  Cameron Diaz is at her charming best while Tom Cruise combines his Mission Impossible flare for action with some witty humor.  A movie that is certainly worthy of repeat viewings, I recommend “Knight and Day”.

The overall high definition video quality of this Blu-ray DVD is very good.  Images are crisp with fine detail.  Black levels are uniformly deep throughout the film.  Colors are warm and vivid with well-saturated hues.  Picture defect mastering is top-notch with no major flaws or compression artifacts.  The overall audio quality is excellent with the English DTS 5.1.  The soundtrack actively incorporates all of the discrete channels into its mix.  Dialogue is intelligible and properly positioned.  The surround channels are aggressively utilized for sound effects and music score, plus include numerous split rear effects.  The low frequency effects channel is often engaged and provides palpable bass during action scenes.

“Knight and Day” is compatible with the “D-BOX” Motion Code™ System, meaning that if you have the necessary D-BOX equipment, your movie viewing experience will be enhanced by adding both motion and vibration to your chosen seating.  This is one of the better D-BOX-enabled movies that I have experienced.  Up/down and side-to-side motion effects, along with potent vibration, are present throughout the film (including a few sustained D-BOX sequences).  Among my favorite scenes are the plane sequence that takes place early in the movie (flying, turbulence and a crash are all well-simulated), the car chase where June is behind the wheel and Roy is on the hood of the car, and the motorcycle chase sequence towards the end of the movie (D-BOX does a great job with both of these chase sequences by putting the viewer into the action mimicking the swerving and impacts occurring on-screen).  “Knight and Day” is a D-BOX Blu-ray title not to be missed with its motion/vibration quality.
