Mary Foster Conklin – Blues for Breakfast: A Tribute to Matt Dennis – Rhombus Records RHO7064, 55:28, ****:
Lounge acts get back!  Mary Foster Conklin is gunnin’ for your job.  And there is a good chance she’ll get it if she wants it!  Blues for Breakfast, just released on Rhombus Records hits the crushed velvet bean shaped couches and smoke filled clubs around the nation.
A tribute to the late singer, songwriter and piano master Matt Dennis, Conklin covers the tunes that Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald made famous.  My favorite cut is the cover of Angel Eyes.  Blues for Breakfast, with its open vocals carried by the guitar, piano and drums, make this entire album a healthy union with a nice dinner and bottle of wine.  That is, of course, if she’s not performing live in a town near you.  Check her website for current tour dates.
Traveling with Mary on this expedition are these very talented musicians: John di Martino, Tony Ramano, Sean Smith, Ron Vincent, Joel Frahm and David Oquendo.

Tracklist: Before the Show, Spring Isn’t Spring Anymore, Show Me the Way to Get Out of this World, Angel Eyes, That Tired Routine Called Love, Ecnacto d’Amor, Blues for Breakfast, Will You Still Be Mine, Where Am I to Go?, The Night We Called it a Day, Let’s Get Away from it All, Let’s Just Pretend, Learn to Love, and Violets for your Furs.
