Enjoyable American music for two pianos.

Fine performances of these two epic American sonatas, but the engineering is less than ideal.

The best album of Gordon’s songs that I have heard so far.

The two big works here are fine indeed and are conducted with panache by the composer himself.

Exciting performances in terrific sonics on Nos. 1 & 3, 2 not quite as good performance-wise.

An epic reading, live, as a British ensemble sheds its native identity and achieves that spectacular Russian wind sound in its strings.

MAHLER: Complete Symphonies; Adagio from Sym. No. 10 Soloists & Choirs/ London Sym. Orch./ Valery Gergiev – LSO Live (10 SACDs)
Gergiev is well worth your serious consideration, and the LSO by the way has never sounded better.

A unique duo treatment of some of Stephen Sondheim’s music.

Deborah Shulman/Larry Zalkind – Lost In The Stars: The Music Of BERNSTEIN, WEILL and SONDHEIM – Summit Records
This is a welcome reworking of three renowned stage composers.

A Mahler 7 that gets it all just about right.

The past and the present converge on JFK’s Inaugural Day, but the musicianship of the original concert may well win the laurels.
