Lichte und Liebe = Marlis Petersen (sop.)/ Anke Vondung (mezzo-sop.)/ Werner Güra (tenor)/ Konrad Jarnot (bass)/ Christoph Berner, fortepiano – Harmonia mundi
Parlor songs? Believe me, there is much more than that in these little wonders.

GEORG WILHELM GRUBER: Concerti per fortepiano = Concerto primo in D; Sonata IV in D; Concerto secundo in F – Arthur Schoonderwoerd, fortepiano/ Ensemble Cristofori – Pan Classics
A composer whose provincial activities do not reflect his cosmopolitan talent.

BEETHOVEN: Piano Trio No. 6 in E-flat Major; Piano Trio No. 7, “Archduke” – Alexander Melnikov, fortepiano/ Isabelle Faust, v./ Jean-Guihen Queyras, cello – Harmonia mundi
Diaphanous and lucid realizations of two powerful, late-Beethoven piano trios, performed with unerring good taste and vivacious ensemble.

MOZART: Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major; Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major – Rudolf Buchbinder, fortepiano/ Concentus Musicus Wien/ Nikolaus Harnoncourt – Sony Classical
Rudolf Buchbinder joins Concentus Musicus Wien for a pair of Mozart concertos, a joyful collaboration that transcends “antiquity” to present lively, uniquely colored realizations of established virtuoso masterpieces.

MENDELSSOHN: Lieder ohne Worte Books 1-4, and Five Individual Lieder ohne Worte – Ronald Brautigam, fortepiano – BIS
This wonderful music should really be heard on an instrument of the period; I doubt that you’ll find a better interpretation on pianoforte than Ronald Brautigam’s.

WEBER: Piano Quartet in B-flat Major; 6 Sonatas – Isabelle Faust, violin/Boris Faust, viola/ Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, cello/ Alexander Melnikov, fortepiano – Harmonia mundi
Violin virtuoso Isabelle Faust and her devoted coterie explore that “wayward” Romantic Carl Maria von Weber with suave aplomb, introducing to Weber’s neglected Piano Quartet.
