HANS GÁL: Symphony No. 2 in F; SCHUMANN: Symphony No. 4 in D Minor – Orch. of the Swan /Kenneth Woods – Avie
A fine performance of Schumann’s Fourth, but the real attraction here is Gál’s Second, a work of deep feeling.

GAL: Cello Concerto in E Minor; ELGAR: Cello Concerto – Antonio Meneses, cello/ Northern Sinfonia/ Claudio Cruz – Avie
Cello concertos by Hans Gal and (revisionist) Elgar provide virtuoso Antonio Meneses with vital responses for Gal’s own query, “Why does one write a concerto?”

HANS GÁL: Symphony No. 4; SCHUMANN: Symphony No. 2 – Orch. of the Swan/ Kenneth Woods – Avie
The Gál may take a few hearings to sink in, but the Schumann is one of the best recordings available.
