An excellent documentary but it’s a make-over for English language viewers.

VERDI: Don Carlo (complete opera) (2014)
Kaufmann and company do the 2013 Salzburg Festival proud.

VERDI: I Vespri Siciliani (complete opera), Blu-ray (2012)
Far better than most, with terrific sound and fine video, this Vespri is well worth the effort.

VERDI: Attila (complete opera), Blu-ray (2013)
A production that relies solely on the excellence of the title role.

Very good performances and good but not great audio.

An excellent Blu-ray opera album, with some interesting stage settings.

Karajan’s devotion to the Verdi Requiem institutionalized its conscientious performance at the Salzburg Festival, and Testament restores a marvelous 1962 incarnation.

“Sempre libera” = Scenes and arias from operas of BELLINI, VERDI, DONITZETTI & PUCCINI – Anna Netrebko, sop./ Mahler Ch. Orch./ Claudio Abbado – DGG stereo-only Blu-ray
This is a terrific album. Why it was released in this format is anyone’s guess.

Has Villazon lost anything since his surgery? Hard to tell from this recording.
