This should be viewed strictly as a sampler to aid the viewer in selecting which of the many TDK jazz videos would be of interest to order in their complete versions. I was disappointed to find not one of the 21 tracks was a complete selection, but mostly between two and three minutes long, then fading out suddenly.  I have to say, however, that it had its desired effect on me: there are now several of the DVD I can’t wait to see. It’s wonderful to see in live performance great jazz artists who are gone – such as Stan Getz, Lionel Hampton or John Lewis – others we have never seen in person, and to see bands and combos that no longer exist. I’ve already reviewed some of these. Going on my list as a result of the sampler will be the Super Guitar Trio, Stan Getz, Paco de Lucia’s Group, and the Trio Rypdal, Vitous, Gurtu.

TrackList of Excerpts: Chick Corea & Gary Burton; Pace de Lucia & Group; Oscar Peterson’s Easter Suite for Jazz Trio; Gary Burton & Makoto Ozone; Joe Zawinul & the Zawinul Syndicate; Stan Getz Final Concert Recording; Eliane Elias Trio; Lionel Hampton & His Golden Men of Jazz; Hancock/Carter/Cobham’s World of Rhythm; Gil Evans & His Orchestra; Billy Cobham’s Glass Menagerie; Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers; Corea/Clarke/Henderson/White – A Very Special Concert; ESP2 – A Tribute to Miles; Dave Holland Quintet; Trio Rypdal, Vitous, Gurtu; The Band from Utopia – Music of Frank Zappa; The Modern Jazz Quartet; Gonzalo Rubacalba Trio; The Super Guitar Trio & Friends; The MJQ & Orchestra.
