Cyprien Katsaris, pianist
French-Cypriot piano virtuoso Cyprien Katsaris (b. 1951) warrants re-consideration this Sunday evening, given his startling audacity and gift for instant improvisation over a huge repertory in a variety of musical styles. Our guest on tonight’s broadcast is Francis Romano, former President of the Gyorgy Cziffra Society and commentator on our tribute to Cziffra. Mr. Romano will provide commentary on the performances in tonight’s program, which reveal Katsaris as a virtuoso of the “golden age” tradition, when pianists consistently impressed their individual sound and style upon their chosen repertory.
Presented by Dr Gary Lemco on KZSU, or kzsu.stanford.edu, from 19:00 to 21:00, PDT.
