New Films to Use DTS:X Audio Format – Lionsgae Films will soon have new films with the innovative new DTS:X immersive object-oriented audio format. They are American Ultra, Sicario, and Mockinjay: Part 2. DTS:X gives studios unprecedented control over the placement, movement and volume of sound objects, and the mix can be simultaneously for either imersive or conventional cinemas. To ensure quality and flexibility with their program, DTS has partnered with three server, sound-rendering and processing firms: GDC Technology, QSC and USL.

Founder of Burmester Audio Dies – In the late 1970s Dieter Burmester created one of the most recognizable brands in high-end audio, with a loyal following for their quality of sound, build and service. Global UHD TV Shipments Up 700% – According to new research from Futuresource Consulting, global UHD TV shipments are expected to exceed 11.6 million units in 2014 and will top 100 million by 2018. A research analyst said “An indication that 4K is quickly becoming mainstream was the availability of many sets at discounted prices during last month’s Black Friday.” Sales are expected to be concentrated on larger than 50-inches size, but screens smaller than 40-inches will become more widely available with UHD in the coming years. Tho native UHD content remains scarce, many consumers currently buy sets on the basis they can upscale HD content and will be future-proof. The North American market for 2014 is anticipated to be stable at 40 million units, and Europe is expected to exceed 57 million units. In addition to UHD/“4K”, smart features continue to be the second important factor in TV sales. Smart TVs for 2014 account for over half of the market, and will rise to 82% by 2018.
