Zenph Studios Working on New Re-Performances – The amazing computerized re-performances accomplished already by the Zenph team of performance analysts with SACDs of historic Glenn Gould and Art Tatum recordings and a CD of Rachmaninoff performing his own works will encored with many new releases in 2011 – they are targeting 25 albums!  Next up is a historic Oscar Peterson session, playing on a Bösendorfer Imperial piano. This one will be a DVD – presenting six videos of Oscar performing tracks synchronized perfectly with the piano re-performance. George Gershwin playing his own compositions will be another new Zenph release. On tap also: Glenn Gould in Bach’s Two-Part Inventions and Three-Part Sinfonias, Spanish composers Albeniz, Granados and de Falla playing their own works, and performances by Fats Waller and Scott Joplin. The Zenph process is also now being applied to other instruments than the piano, and the first instrument which will have the benefit of re-performance is the doublebass.  It will likely be recordings of Ray Brown playing with Oscar Peterson.

Australian Retailers Coming Under Attack from U.S. Online Companies – Stationary chain Staples has launched an Australian web site, and is set to be followed next year by Amazon and Best Buy. The Australian market is an easy one to target for struggling U.S. retailers due to the high cost of goods imported to Australia by distributors claiming an additional layer of margin.  A Citi Group analyst said “If they are going to undercut Australian pricing it could have an impact. Amazon is already here and it does not surprise me that other operators are moving into this market.”

Android Tablet Market Wobbling – Analysts are saying the Android tablet market may be experiencing the same problems as 3D TV technology – pushed onto consumers too early by hungry vendors looking for the next big thing, with a lack of content plus flaky early technology.  Google has admitted that their current Android OS is not designed for tablets, and the new Toshiba Android tablet is already in trouble in Europe due to technical issues. Android Smartphones, however, have all the applications that an Android table cannot deliver.
