HD Film on Bach – Bach is also getting the attention of filmmaker/composer Michael Lawrence of Baltimore. He has composed scores for several films and shot three music documentaries, including two on guitarists. Filming has started on a project focusing not on the biographical side of J.S. but rather on the power and genius of his music and some of the artists drawn to it. Lawrence says “My greatest love is Bach…But there hasn’t been a decent film made on Bach.” He will be working in HD for the first time, and envisions a double-DVD production blending conversation and music, plus an all-music disc. He is already filming young organist Felix Hell and musicologist/pianist Charles Rosen.
Circle Surround Auto in New Subaru – The 2008 Subaru Impreza will be the first U.S. vehicle to incorporate the new version of Circle Surround technology especially for autos. “CS Auto” delivers surround sound from any audio source, including matrix surround encoded content, mono or stereo radio broadcasts, satellite radio, standard CDs and MP3/AAC files. It overcomes many of the challenges inherent in automobiles to present a realistic and immersive surround environment, instead of just feeding the same L and R signals from the front to the two speakers in the back, as done in most autos. CS Auto has processing which elevates the sound image to ear level from speakers located in the car doors or under the dash. It creates a phantom center speaker to pull out and clarify vocals, and includes a channel-mixing feature to enable passengers in both front and rear seats to clearly hear all vocals and be immersed in the audio experience. Finally, a patented bass enhancement system creates a virtual subwoofer to complete the surround experience. [Unsolicited plug: I’ve had an earlier CS processor in my Camry for many years and wouldn’t be without it…Ed.]
