THIS MONTH’S DRAWING is for two hi-res discs from the audiophile label First Impression Music. 12 AUDIOPHILE AUDITION readers who register HERE (or have registered in the past) will be notified to make their choice of the above first three discs. Each one will also receive the bonus HDCD (playable on any CD or DVD player) “Passion,” which FIM produced for Mercedes-Benz and which is not for sale. Its 14 tracks include sax with pipe organ, Flamenco guitar, female vocalists, piano, cello and violin solos, and a jazz trio.

Your choice of: 1) VIVALDI: The Four Seasons – Sonatori De La Gioiosa Marca.  Our Max Dudious said of this disc: I already have six or eight versions of this music that I’ve come to consider boring. But this recording on SACD technology makes it fresh again.
2)
Super Sounds II – A leather-bound FIM xrcd24 sampler! (playable on any CD or DVD player) 11 tracks include two Mozart selections – one with David and Igor Oistrakh, Amanda McBroom’s The Rose, Theme from The Magnificent Seven, Take Five from Jazz at the Pawnshop, and The All Star Percussion Ensemble in the Intermezzo from Carmen.
3)
Autumn in Seattle – A brand new SACD from the Yamamoto Trio, famous for their LPs on the Japanese label Three Blind Mice. A mix of originals and standards in terrific sonics. We reviewed it HERE.
+ The Passion HDCD Sampler.

The lucky winner of the Sunfire Subwoofer – our April giveaway – is Thomas Matthews of Omaha, NE!

Welcome to the web publication for audio, music and home theater, emphasizing hi-res and surround sound for music! AUDIOPHILE AUDITION began as a weekly national radio series hosted by John Sunier, which aired for 13 1/2 years on up to 200 public radio and commercial stations coast to coast.

May 06 is our 87th issue and takes us into our eighth year! AUDIOPHILE AUDITION has moved away from monthly editions to an ongoing publishing schedule. All reviews – over 100 a month – are now added throughout the month as they are written. This ensures you get the latest reviews, without having to wait a month for new content.

We have also reorganized the web site to make it easier to navigate and find content. The most recent reviews appear at the top of each Section Index. To read the full review, click on the headline and you will be taken directly to a page for that review. The Home Page lists the five latest published reviews, the Section Index lists the past two months of reviews, the Archive goes back to June 1, 2005 and for all reviews by month prior to that you need to click on the Old Archive.  The Disc Index also past reviews in every section.

We welcome your feedback, and have created a “Reader Feedback” section. Please send us your comments, and we will review and possibly post them to that new feedback section. We have made these changes to provide you with a more useful service, and  we look forward to publishing many more timely reviews from now on! Check back with us frequently for more reviews & news, and be sure to register for the monthly giveaway!

Job Offer From The Publisher

AUDIOPHILE AUDITION has grown and expanded greatly since it transitioned seven and one-half years ago from a site listing advance programming and stations carrying my national radio series to an online publication reviewing recordings and components of interest to audio buffs and disc collectors. We now have 191,000 unique monthly visitors to the site and are one of the few online audio publications with a below-100,000 Alexa Rank (the lower the better).

The writers and editor have put so much effort into providing unique and useful content for AUDIOPHILE AUDITION that the all-important advertising effort has suffered – in spite of our sales kit boasting solid numbers and demographics that offer most attractive opportunities to audio manufacturers and record labels.  That is why we are looking for a combination sales manager/partner.

Frankly, we’ve looked before and perused stacks of resumes, but the problem has been finding someone with advertising sales experience who knows anything about consumer audio/video. (We’ve talked to Internet-sales-savy people who think because they have an iPod they are audiophiles…) An understanding of the industry – and specifically the high-end segment – is a first requirement.  The candidate can be located anywhere in the U.S. and the position need not be full time. If you are one of our many regular readers, and sharing in the further business development of a unique audio publication appeals to you, call me at 503-977-2189 (PST) and let’s talk about it!
