GarageBand New Music Sampler 2005; Klipsch Audio Technologies CD ***1/2:

This disc is a compilation of some of the best music that is on
www.garageband.com.  In addition to information on local
independent music and a community where musicians and artists can meet,
the Garageband site offers a way to submit music which is then rated by
other listeners of the site.  21 bands on the site have been
signed and 15 of those were by major labels.  The site is free
assuming that you are willing to take time to review other artists as
well.  The high ranking songs get recognition and promotion (like
this disc).  If this disc is any indication there are some great
undiscovered artists out there—as if I need to tell you that!  The
first thing to realize is that although the site is called Garageband,
the sound is anything but rough.  These songs sound better than
some professionally recorded albums.  The second thing to know is
that the material is not just hard rock.  The songs on this disc
come from many different genres including ska, rock/pop, alternative,
folk, blues, country, and hip hop to name a few.

My favorites are “Blue Bird Tattoo” which is a catchy pop ditty,
“Sylvia” a salsa tune, “Anaoxia” a hip hop number complete with
sampling, and the blues song “I Won’t Go Back.”  I receive a lot
of samplers and most of them are barely worth a quick listen.
This one is definitely a keeper.  Songs included are:  Geoff
Byrd – I’m in Love; Starpool – It’s Alright; Syd – Back Home; Joe White
– I Won’t go Back; Alva Star – Unhappily Yours; Circe Link – Blue bird
Tattoo; Robert Wade – Monkey Cymbals; Green Man – She Moved Through The
Fair; Emory Joseph – Daddy John; La Tribu – Sylvia; The Fishermen –
Dream; Pocket Dwellers – Anaoxia; 99 Men – Big Party.
