Rick Springfield – We Are The ‘80s – RCA/Legacy 82876 83858, 2 CDs ***:

This disc contains the hit songs from Springfield’s big release from 1981, Working Class Dog, as well as hits generated from other 80s records that followed soon after.  “Don’t Talk To Strangers” managed to reach #2 on the charts and it represents more or less what Springfield is all about musically.  Once heard, both “Affair Of The Heart,” “Human Touch,” and “Love Somebody” should be familiar to those who were addicted to music on radio in the 80s.  Unlike other hits collections there aren’t any songs that I feel are missing from this disc.  Springfield has quite a few—hits collections that is.  If you want to overdose on his music, Legendary is a 3-disc set that isn’t very expensive and Anthology has 24 tracks instead of 14.  There are a few Japanese discs that are fairly complete, but I would stay away from the Platinum & Gold Collection disc.

Sound quality is about what you’d expect from an 80s mass-market release—good, but not great.  Some of the later songs are of slightly better recording quality and aren’t as edgy as earlier ones.  Songs included are:  Jessie’s Girl; I’ve Done Everything For You; Love Is Alright Tonite; Don’t Talk To Strangers; What Kind Of Fool Am I?; I Get Excited; Affair Of The Heart; Human Touch; Love Somebody; Don’t Walk Away; Bop ‘Til You Drop; State Of The Heart; Celebrate Youth; Rock Of Life.
