In 1975 the proprietor of the Village Vanguard urged Hank Jones to form a trio with Ron Carter and Tony Williams named The Great Jazz Trio. They made many magnificent recordings, but this is not the Great Jazz Trio, though it equals the performance level of that group. Jones is now 88 and stil plays on the highest level. Christian McBride is one of the most exciting bassists around today. Jimmy Cobb paid his dues with Miles and Wes Montgomery and provides a delightful long set of great tunes with his distinctive improvisational thrust. Chesky’s sound is very natural, with great spatial placement of all three musicians on the soundstage in surround mode.
