William Paul, solo piano – Horse Dreams – The Gate CD-9564 ****:

A singular theme for a jazz piano disc, this is a sort of musical
tribute to the noble horse.  One learns a bit of horse lore
reading Paul’s notes for each of the 13 compositions/improvisations on
the CD. The style is somewhere between New Age piano stylings and piano
miniatures by someone like Mompou, with more of a jazz influence.
Waltzes, marches and other classical forms are found in some of the
selections. You can follow along on the notes with the specific horses
– real and fantastic –  described in the music or just sit back
and listen to it as a piano suite. Sonics are clean and detailed.

Selections: Dance of the Unicorn, Pegasus Flight, For Bucephalus,
Arabians in the Desert, Centaurs, Asian Moon Mare, Magic Ponies, Lonely
Horse Caravan, Dreams, Violet Spirit, Angel Foal, Andalusian Renewal,
Fallen Horse Tribute.
