Pioneer Increases Blu-ray Storage from 50GB to 400GB – Pioneer
Electronics has revealed a new gigantic-storage Blu-ray disc featuring
16 separate layers on a single side, with 25GB capacity on each one for
a total capacity of 400GB. The new discs will be fully playable in
Blu-ray players according to Pioneer.  At first they will be released
as read-only discs, with the rewritable format coming later.  This
development has astounding implications for both movies and the gaming
world. Games could include full hi-def audio and video without
compression and many games could be released on one disc. It will aid
the popularity of the PlayStation3 over its competitors. The movie
industry will also benefit.  It is felt this development will ensure
Blu-ray is the format of choice in terms of best quality for a very
long time.

Home Theater Suggestions from Installers – HiddenWires magazine asked various HT experts what they emphasize to make their customers happy with installations.  Among the suggestions were to use the latest HDMI v1.3 “Deep Color” standard in cabling, to consider factoring in a mood lighting system, realizing that all projects benefit from room acoustic treatment, follow the dictum of 50% of the costs to picture and 50% to the sound, don’t forget power management/filtering, remember that a stunning demonstration of HT is what turns customers on, and don’t think of just immediate requirements but consider potential future needs – especially in wiring.
