Dame Shirley Bassey – Get the Party Started – Decca  B0010743-02 ****:

Man, the Dame can certainly belt ‘em out!  She’s a senior sensation, just like Tina.  Track 10 here will remind anyone who’s forgotten that she came to most listener’s ears first on the soundtrack of the Goldfinger James Bond movies.  You Only Live Twice is for another Bond movie and very similar in tone and delivery.  She really delivers on Big Spender too.  Her arrangements are great – showcasing her steely voice and powerful delivery –  you get your money’s worth with this disc and I’m sure at one of her live shows.  Chances are anyone into Lisa Minelli will be automatically a fan of Dame Shirley. It’s just a bit more all-stops-out than I would prefer to listen to all at one sitting – leaves me rahther exhausted. But I’m sure her fans are jonsing for more. And you can be sure she will survive.

TrackList:

Get the Party Started, Big Spender, I Who Have Nothing, This is my Life, Slave to the Rhythm, Can I Touch You There, What Now My Love, Kiss Me Honey Honey, Hello, You Only Live Twice, The Living Tree, Where is the Love, I Will Survive.
