Records CD360 – 56 min. **:
It’s always difficult to make unflattering comments concerning someone
you really want to like – and equally difficult to put a positive spin
on negative emotions you’ve garnered during a recent listening
experience. That’s my unhappy task here – while this new album from San
Francisco artist Daria has many good qualities, including some superb
backing musicians – I just didn’t quite “Feel the Rhythm.” Many of the
songs seemed more than a bit forced here, maybe even a little over the
top – and just didn’t convey that sense of Latin rhythm that I get from
a hundred different records by other Latin artists. The record as a
whole just seemed to lack cohesion. And the recorded sound didn’t
really sparkle for me either – it often sounded in places like a
heavily multi-tracked recording from the seventies. Try it before you
buy it, if possible.
Tracks: All or Nothing at All; Under the Moon and Over the Sky; Turn
Around; Sunshine of Your Love; Feel the Rhythm; Moon and Sand; Fragile;
Luiza; Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing; Dreams of a Tango.
