David Rice (Hayden Christensen) is a young man with the extraordinary ability to instantly teleport himself anywhere in the world. Believing his ability to be unique, David has used it solely for his own personal gain and pleasure. However, his carefree lifestyle comes to an abrupt halt when David is pursued by a secret group called the Paladins. The Paladins have devoted themselves to eradicating the world of people who share David’s gift, people to whom they refer to as ‘Jumpers.’ Ultimately, David joins forces with another Jumper named Griffin and together they battle back against the Paladins. I thought this was a decent science fiction/action film. The teleportation concept was intriguing and the special effects were very well done. The acting, however, was a little mechanical, and at just 88 minutes, the script could have delved deeper into character development. In summary, Jumpers isn’t a bad choice for those seeking a mindless, action-oriented film for weekend afternoon viewing.
The high definition video quality of this Blu-ray DVD is excellent. Images are unblemished with razor sharp detail. Blacks are consistently dark throughout the movie. Colors are vibrant and bold with nicely-saturated hues. Picture defect mastering is perfect with no major flaws or compression artifacts. The overall audio quality is also excellent with the English DTS 5.1 track. The soundtrack actively incorporates all of the discrete channels into its mix. Dialogue is natural sounding and securely anchored in the center channel. The surround channels are aggressively utilized for the sound effects and music score, and include multiple split rear effects. The low frequency effects channel is deep and powerful.
