Richard Pryor Standup Comedy Double Feature
“Here and Now” & “Live on the Sunset Strip”

Studio: Columbia Pictures
Video: 1.85:1 widescreen (Here); 4:3 full screen (Live)
Audio: Dolby Digital stereo
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish
Extras: Pryor DVD promo reel
Length: 94 min. (Here); 82 min. (Live)
Rating: **** (with profanity warning of course)

These are two nights of Pryor filmed back in l982 and 83 – the first at
a theater in New Orleans and the second shot at the Hollywood
Palladium. He starts a bit slowly in the first feature, but soon has
his audience in his lap holding forth on politics, sex and drugs, with
a funny but honest description of his famous setting himself on fire
incident and the suffering after. The second feature delves more into
some of the hilarious impersonations of various characters. You might
wish Pryor didn’t use a couple certain words quite so often in his
patter, but ignoring that given, one can’t come away without realizing
this was one of the sharpest of comics and probably the most successful
at giving the Caucasian members of his audiences a taste of life from
the other side of the color line.  Image and sound quality is
superb throughout.
