“The Sound of Harp” Music from Heaven – Silke Aichhorn, concert harp [TrackList below] – Hörmusik, Germany/Top Music International Alloy Gold CD TM-UQCD 1071. 59:00 *****:
Silke Aichhorn is a leading solo harpist of her generation, who studied at the Lausanne Conservatory and University of Cologne. She has concertized widely in Europe as well as Japan and the U.S.
This is a varied program with 18 short selections, none exceeding five minutes. In addition to the expected Bach, Debussy and Grandjany, there are several works which will be new to many ears but are all most enjoyable. The concert harp is one of the most difficult-to-record instruments due to its strong resonances. And if your subwoofer crossover is not smooth you may experience some odd sounds in the bass region. This is an excellent recording of the concert harp, and the version offered by audiophile label Top Music employs UQCD ultra-quality CD mastering on a gold disc for the best results from the standard 44.1K/16-bit CD format, without any special encoding.
