This one was a pleasant surprise, even thought it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. A little quick research revealed that this is Heather’s second disc, after her debut “Who I Am”, which was nominated for a few grammys.
Even though I’m not much of a current R&B fan, this young woman is a master of her craft. Even though she has a very rich voice with a lot of range, she doesn’t stoop to the histrionics that Ms. Carey and Ms. Houston make me want to run out of the room screaming for mercy. Heather also knows how to pick her collaborators. This disc features guest appearances by Jimmy Jam, Babyface and Warren Campbell, to name a few. This is groovy, sexy music that should be a big hit if you are just hanging out and want your female friends to embrace your more sensitive side.
Sound quality is pretty good, though still a bit crunchy on the extreme high end. Like the recent Fiona Apple disc, it has great bass. Not quite as compressed as some of the newer Dual Disc releases, the CD side sounds decent as well. If you like R&B, I think you will really like this one, and if you are on the fence, this one might get you to jump. Heather has a beautiful voice.
