What a versatile actor is Kingsley!  From Ghandi to a Polish hit man in one swell foop. He plays Frank, who slept thru an important hit on a guy who was leaving the country, and it was because he was drunk.  His mafia boss sends him away from their Buffalo territory out to San Francisco to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and get straight again.  His handler there sets him up with an apartment and a job preparing corpses at a funeral parlor – at which he is very good.

The attendees at the AA meeting are dumbfounded when he reveals his addiction wrecked the job he was so professional at – killing people.  One member takes Frank under his wing as his sponsor, and Frank meets a rather unusual woman played by Tea Leoni, who also helps him get back to his profession.  Back in Buffalo a minor gangster war is going on and Frank has to get back even though it looks hopeless.  It’s a quirky  and often hilarious story with believable acting thruout, and you can’t help rooting for deadpanned killer Frank.

The visual effects would seem unrelated to this straightforward film, but many of them were required. They had to create additional CGI snow on the ground for Buffalo, and since there were scenes on the Golden Gate Bridge (where they were not allowed to film) they had to build a set of a toll booth and bridge railing and add the real bridge background footage.  Good transfer of both images and sound, but the onscreen menus were all very blurry for some reason – almost unreadable.
