Choral Works of DANIEL ASIA – BBC Singers/ Odaline de la Martinez– Summit
A rare choral collection from a composer who has limited his output in this area.
Musica Vitae = WORKS OF LIDHOLM & JENNEFELT – Hakan Hardenberger, trumpet/ Musica Vitae/ Peter Csaba – Caprice
A feast of Swedish music, though only one remains memorable.
GRIEG: String Quartet No. 1; SVENDSEN: String Octet – Kocian Quartet & M. Nostitz Quartet – Praga Digitals
I’m used to hearing a more genial rendering of the Svendsen, but the playing and sound are both top-notch. If this pairing appeals, I say go for it.
“Sonates romantiques: Violin Sonatas transcribed for flute” = FAURÉ: Sonata No. 1; GABRIEL PIERNÉ: Sonata; FRANCK: Sonata in A Major – Robert Langevin, flute / Jonathan Feldman, p. – Avie
Robert Langevin’s playing is cool—too cool for these Romantic masterworks.
Kermit Driscoll – Reveille – 19/8 Records
Driscoll’s star-studded foursome features fellow Big Apple denizen Kris Davis on piano and prepared piano.
Heart – Night At Sky Church (2011)
DVD concert release brings veteran rock band into high-tech renaissance.
Music for Vibraphone, Marimba & Piano by ARMAND QUALLIOTINE – var. performers – Albany Records
Slow moving, dreamy, floating sounds that provide relaxing listening.

Editorial for April 2011
Welcome to Adobe GoLive 6 To be one of the ten AUDIOPHILE AUDITION readers during April who will receive the two Linn SACDs – Ian Shaw’s "Lifejacket" and Jonathan Freeman-Attwood’s "Trumpet Masque," you need to register using our simple non-intrusive email-protected form here. Both surround or stereo SACDs are of course hybrid and compatible. Shaw has been called the single greatest male jazz vocalist Britain has to offer. He has a wide vocal range and plenty of soul. Trumpeter Freeman-Attwood explores with accompanist Daniel-Ben Pienaar the Venetian world, the North German lineage before Bach, Jacobean dances, Spanish tientos, and a major sonata by Muffat. The ten winners of both SACDs will be announced in early May and will be receiving their discs then. Meanwhile, here are the dozen lucky winners of the two Chesky Records hi-res discs – Cobb’s Corner and David Chesky’s Concerto for Electric Guitar – which we awarded in our March giveaway/drawing: Larry Gorbet, Albuquerque NM; Bennett Rowe, Portland OR; Elliott Ribner, Trenton NJ; Alison Courtois, Bernalillo NM; Bruce Hartley, Lenexa KS; Angela Palmer, Miramar FL; Bernard Beyer, Univ. Heights OH; Carl Tutschulte, Los Altos CA; Mel Surdin, Rancho Mirage CA; Lee Aldridge, Albuquerque NM; Richard Meyer, […]
