Home Page for November 2013
Our November drawing/giveaway again is unusual: It is for three copies of the new Decca hi-res remastering of Benjamin Britten’s original conducting of his own very moving War Requiem in 1963, with Vishnevskaya, Peter Pears and Fischer-Dieskau as soloists. Gramophone called it “one of the most magnetic performances of British music ever put on record.” The original tapes have been carefully remastered to a 96K/24-bit PCM stereo Pure Audio Blu-ray, as well as to a standard CD, plus a second CD on the rehearsing of the work. Here is our review of it. To be eligible, all you need do is register on our simple form this month; we will not share your email address with anyone. The three lucky winners will be announced on our Editorial Page next month, and you’ll find more details on our November Editorial Page. Our 15 Christmas/holiday disc reviews are now up in the Features section!

The latest techniques and extensive comparison with the LPs and later remasterings have been used in the transfer from the originals. The second disc is a CD version and the third is titled “Rehearsing the War Requiem.” (We will also review the album this month.) To be eligible, just register this month via our simple non-intrusive form, and we won’t share your email address. The three winners will be listed in this space next month.
