Our drawing for this November is for four sets of the new 11-CD Complete 15 Symphonies of Shostakovich, on the Naxos label. The conductor is Vasily Petrenko, and Fanfare said this is the the set of all the symphonies that may be the best. Here is our review of the set. The 15 symphonies of Dmitry Shostakovich stand as one of the 20th century’s greatest musical achievements. They encapsulate the Soviet experience. Here is our review of the set.
