A serious and moving story of hope and redemption on subject not so far covered in such a feature film presentation – rape. It won praise from Roger Ebert and awards for Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director at various film festivals. The lives of a young engaged couple are torn asunder by a brutal rape of the woman, and the fallout from the unimaginable incident negatively affects their lives together, as well as relationships in their careers and with their parents and friends. The affected young woman finally finds an inner strength thru therapy and the power of love. Shepherd and Gould provide realistic and believable supporting roles as the woman’s parents. Having had the same nightmare experience in her own life, the film’s director wanted to produce a serious feature film bringing the closeted subject into the public consciousnes. She has succeeded perfectly.
The transfer and cinematography is excellent. Much of the dialog is whispered or very low level and you may want to turn up the volume to make it hearable.
